Philadelphia is a small village 40km north of Cape Town. It has roughly 400 residents, a police station, 2 schools, a large graveyard, a handful of shops, 2 churches and 2 restaurants. And now it has its first digital newsheet: The Philadelphia Bugle: providing insight, facts and opinions about this tiny town tucked away amongst the fields and vineyards.

Stop Press: Copper Mine- Very last minute meeting announcement by developer

Yesterday we placed our vote and are holding our breath for a Western Cape  being placed even more firmly in capable DA hands and a country free of a two thirds ANC throttle grip.

And whilst the ballots are being counted...

Fresh challenges are afoot:

What follows is the invitation from the representatives of the  prospective copper mining concern, Nanda. The sentiment so far is that there has been very little notice given and that the timing, 10:00 on a work day, was calculated to exclude much of the region's working population.

Dear Sirs

We refer to our email and registered mail correspondence dated 8 April 2009  regarding the above matter  and confirm that the informative meeting will be held on the 24 April 2009 at 10h00 at the Pepper Tree Art , Stable and Coffee Shop in Philadelphia.

The venue is situated in Louw Street in the town of Philadelphia .

Directions:

Copper/molybdenum mine proposed on Philadelphia border

Philadelphia is 15km from the only commercially functional nuclear reactor in Africa and about 8km from a site shortlisted for Cape Town's next large waste landfill. Now a proposal has been submitted to prospect for the minerals copper and molybdenum on Botterberg Farm (Knolle Valley, Farm 41), threatening further development dischord to  the pleasant rustic landscape, environment and country lifestyle of the region.

What follows is an excerpt from a letter from attorneys Steyl Vosloo of Cape Town (forgive any text errors, it was OCR'd from a pdf file)
